Version 1.1 · FIDE Dutch System (C.04.3, in force since 1 February 2026) · C.07 tie-breaks (2026 version).
1. What it is
Pareo Integral pairs chess tournaments with the FIDE Dutch System, records results, builds the standings with the tie-breaks you choose and the crosstable, and exports the TRF, the file FIDE requires for rating reports. It also runs round robins with the Berger tables.
It is free and needs no account. Everything is stored only in the browser of the computer you use: nothing is sent to any server. To move a tournament to another computer, or to keep a copy, download its file under “Files and checker”.
2. A tournament in five steps
Under Tournament, enter the name, choose the system and the number of rounds.
Under Players, register each player (or paste the whole list).
Under Rounds, mark who requested a bye and press “Pair round 1”.
Enter the result of every board. Once all are in, the next round can be paired.
Standings and Crosstable show the tournament; Files has the TRF for FIDE.
3. Tournament details
Name, city, federation, dates, arbiters and time control go into the TRF.
System: Swiss (Dutch System) or round robin. It cannot be changed once round 1 is paired.
Number of rounds: it can be raised during the tournament, never below the rounds already paired.
Colour of no. 1 in round 1: white or black, as drawn by the arbiter.
Baku acceleration: FIDE's acceleration for large tournaments.
Points for a win, a draw, a loss and the pairing-allocated bye (by default 1, ½, 0 and 1). They are fixed before round 1.
4. Players
Each player has a name (surname, first name), FIDE rating, title, federation, FIDE ID, sex and date of birth. Only the name is required.
Paste a list: one per line, Name; Rating; Title; Federation; FIDE ID. Columns copied from a spreadsheet work too.
Pairing numbers follow the FIDE initial ranking: rating, then title, then name. They are fixed when round 1 is paired.
Late entries are inserted where their rating places them, without changing the order of the others. They count as absent with 0 in the rounds they missed; if they are entitled to a bye, change it in each of those rounds.
Withdraw: the player is no longer paired from the next unpaired round. Games already played still count. “Rejoin” brings them back.
Delete is only possible for players who have not played any round.
5. Rounds
Before pairing, mark who does not play the round: requested bye (half a point), absent (0) or full-point bye. Withdrawn players are already left out.
“Pair round N” computes the pairings with the Dutch System. Boards come out in FIDE board order. If one player is left over, they get the pairing-allocated bye, with the points you chose.
If the round cannot be paired under the rules (for example, someone has no new opponents left), the page says so and does not pair it.
Results: 1-0, ½-½, 0-1; +/− and −/+ are forfeits (the player who showed up wins); −/− means neither came.
A round can be paired only when every result of the previous one is in.
Correcting a result in an earlier round is possible, but later rounds are not re-paired.
Undo the pairing is only possible for the last round. Pairing it again with the same data gives the same round.
“Print” prints only the round, with the results written out.
6. Round robin
Pairings come from the FIDE Berger tables. The number of rounds is computed automatically; a double round robin repeats them with colours reversed.
Before round 1 the numbers can be drawn by lot. Otherwise they follow the ratings.
With an odd number of players, one player has a free round (0 points) in each round.
A player who does not show up loses by forfeit: record it as the result of their board.
7. Standings and tie-breaks
The standings only count rounds with every result in. Players are ranked by points, then by the tie-breaks in the order you chose under “Tournament”. Players equal in everything share their place (the arbiter breaks the tie).
Unplayed rounds are handled as C.07 prescribes (articles 15 and 16): they count against a virtual opponent with the player's own score, capped as article 16.4 says, and a voluntary unplayed round is cut first. In a round robin, a forfeit counts with the scheduled opponent.
Rating-based tie-breaks need every player's rating: an unrated opponent counts as 0.
BH
Buchholz: the sum of the opponents' scores.
BH-C1, BH-C2
Buchholz without the lowest opponent, or the two lowest.
BH-M1, BH-M2
Median Buchholz: without the highest and the lowest (or the two highest and two lowest).
SB, SB-C1
Sonneborn-Berger: each opponent's score multiplied by the points scored against them; with or without the lowest.
DE
Direct encounter: points scored against the tied players.
WIN
Rounds won, played or not (the pairing-allocated bye included).
WON
Games won over the board.
BPG, BWG
Games played with black, and won with black.
GE
Games elected to play: the rounds minus the voluntary unplayed ones.
PS, PS-C1
Progressive scores: the sum of the running score round by round; with or without the first.
KS
Koya: points scored against players who scored at least half.
STD
Standard points: 1 for a win, ½ for a draw, whatever the point system.
ARO, ARO-C1
Average rating of opponents; with or without the lowest.
TPR
Tournament performance rating with the FIDE table.
PTP
Perfect tournament performance: the rating at which the score would be exactly expected.
FB
Fore Buchholz: Buchholz as if every game of the last round had been drawn.
AOB, AFB
The opponents' average Buchholz (or average Fore Buchholz).
APRO, APPO
The opponents' average performance rating (or average perfect performance).
8. Files, checker and generator
Download the FIDE TRF: it includes the rounds with every result in.
Download a copy (.json): the whole tournament, to open it on another computer.
Open a tournament: a TRF from Swiss-Manager, Vega or another program, or a .json copy. A TRF keeps its own pairing numbers, and the remaining rounds can be paired here.
Pairings checker: paste a TRF from any program. Every round is re-paired with the Dutch System, and any difference is shown.
Random tournament generator: builds a whole tournament with random results. The same seed always gives the same tournament.
9. The command-line version
For batch testing (for example, by FIDE testers) there is a command-line version. It needs Node.js 18 or later and runs the same engine as the page. Pairing, checking and generating use the JaVaFo / bbpPairings syntax:
The details are in the README.md inside the package.
10. What it is built on, and what is missing
Pairings are computed by bbpPairings (Jeremy Bierema, Apache 2.0 licence), the Dutch System engine used by FIDE-endorsed programs. It is compiled to run in the browser, with no changes to its code.
Tie-breaks are translated from chesspairing (Gert Nutterts, Apache 2.0 licence) and cross-checked against it.
With the same seed, the generator builds a different tournament than the desktop bbpPairings, because the random number generator of the C++ library differs. The pairings themselves are identical.
Team tournaments and other Swiss systems (Burstein, Dubov, Lim) are not supported yet.
